Sareytales presents The Art of Online Dating
All I can say is...WOW! Thank you EVERYONE who showed up, supported (near and far) and rooted me on not only yesterday at @tedxdetroit but throughout this entire journey, but especially to my team, you know who you are <3 I’m feeling all the love the morning after, and I couldn’t be more grateful for all of your support 🖤 Swipe to see some highlights from the event, and make sure you have 📣 THE SOUND ON📣 I don’t have any footage to share yet, but if you scroll through this post you’ll get a little taste of my presentation. The audio really made it extra special, and extra creepy 🤣 HUGE thank you to all the guys who lent me their douchiest interpretations of some of the worst messages, your voices brought this presentation to life, you are all AMAZING 🙌🏼.
Traditional is not the modus operandi at Norwest Gallery of Art, located in the Grandmont-Rosedale neighborhood.
As part of Detroit Art Week’s ‘On View Exhibitions’ series, the gallery’s latest exhibition, “Tinder Moments,” dissects romance, intimacy, and modern-day dating via social media and dating apps.
But, it’s not all sweet and cuddly exchanges. Asia Hamilton, gallery owner and curator of the exhibit, collaborated with Sarey Ruden, an artist and designer known as Sareytales, to offer an artistic deep dive into the dating underworld. With use of mixed-media, interactive structures and imagery, the ladies ditch subliminal messaging and turn the travesties of online dating into evocative, thought-provoking visual pieces.

Feminists Act is an incredible resource which provide access to information about reproductive rights, political involvement and other social justice issues. I had the pleasure of speaking with them about Sareytales, art, and what feminism means to me.
I had the pleasure of speaking with Tom Gentry, creator of the “The Path to Authenticity” podcast. Tom Gentry is a state and internationally-certified addiction counselor and writer. He also operates a small private practice in West Palm Beach, Florida, helping young men navigate the transition between early stages of abstinence and long-term recovery. He facilitates groups, focusing on relationships, codependency issues, and the transition into manhood.

I recently received my very first UDP (unsolicited dick pic) on Plenty of Fish. I know it's nothing new, people seem to get them all the time. On snapchat, kik, text messages, etc. And I know it's cliche, but until it happens to you, a truly non-consensual, unwelcome dick pic image, you just don't get how disturbing it is. Beyond the fact that most penises are NOT attractive, especially taken out of context of the body they belong to, they are sexually aggressive and completely violate your personal space. Forget boundaries. Forget DECENCY. An unwanted dick pic is too close for comfort to non-consensuality for me. The internet is real. Sending dick pics via dating apps is real. Just because you can hide behind a screen, doesn't mean that your actions, pics, words, anything don't have substance.
Through the ideation of the #UDPproject, I plan to push Sareytales's concept of turning ugly into art past even my own comfort zone. Instead of transforming these unwanted dick pics into graphic illustrations, I am going to take the actual dick pic and render it into a work of art. The veneer of subtlety that I have tried to to exercise in past designs has dropped to the floor. I hope this project will push the boundaries of my own creativity, and, perhaps will come to help define my brand of "The Art of Online Dating". I feel like this is a pivotal moment in my development as an artist, and in the journey I am taking as a person with Sareytales.
Stay tuned for future developments.

I just found out two of my pieces were selected to be a part London's first annual Erotic Art Exhibit in Copeland Park, Peckham Rye! "Lick Them Lips" and "Ball Kicker" will be featured in this event from April 26th-29th. I'm so excited to be a part of this unique event. The Dirty Show in Detroit has ben my only experience so far into the world of erotic art. I am looking forward to seeing how erotica and fine art co-exist around the world.
For the first time in London…. Erotic Art London, a festival to celebrate Erotic art in every imaginable media from all over the world. With art classes, workshops, lectures and talks, an erotic art and design market, top world-class performances, artists and DJ´s on the stage, this is the festival that is for anyone that is interested in art, the collectors, the curious and the hedonists.
I am honored to have two pieces selected in Colors of Humanity's "Human Nature" Exhibit. There were so many talented artists who submitted their work, I am so pleased to be included with such talent.
"This show will run April 1-30, 2018. Artists from around the world were called to submit their work. There were 71 accepted entries and they came from 10 different states in the USA as well as 6 other countries: Lithuania, Poland, Russia, South Korea, Spain, and Taiwan. A variety of styles and mediums were entered, including but not limited to acrylic, charcoal, colored pencil, digital, gouache, graphite, ink, mixed media, oil, pastel, photography, tempera, and watercolor. The judging criterion was originality, interpretation, quality, demonstration of ability, and usage of medium. Other factors, such as the clarity of the images provided and their ability to be viewed online, as well as relating to the theme, also contributed to our decision. “Best of Show”, “First Place”, and “Second Place” winners received a monetary award in addition to special recognition.
We were very happy to donate 10% of all entry fees from this show to Your Safe Haven, a nonprofit agency that serves victims of all serious crimes and their families. Colors of Humanity Art Gallery, LLC is not affiliated with Your Safe Haven. It is our hope that this small act of kindness will blossom and grow to help someone else."
